Master Chen Zhi Yong demonstrates a pattern of the Flying Crane Style (Fei He Quan). This is the oldest of the five crane styles first developed in the Fuzhou area of South East China. At first glance the movements are hard to understand, but in fact what is happening here is the development of Spring Force (Jin or Dun in different Chinese dialects). The movements are designed to practise sending force out to the fingertips. The form which this practice takes in the pattern is very artistic, mimicking the movements of the bird on which this style is based.
