The Chinese call their country the Middle Kingdom, seeing it as the centre of the world. It is the world's oldest surviving civilization, as well as its third largest country. As such it is a land of great mystery and mystique with a lot to offer an adventurous twenty first century traveller.
China is divided into 21 provinces and 5 autonomous regions. Each with its own cuisine, dialects, archaeological sights and distinct cultural heritage. A big part of this heritage are the Chinese Styles of Martial Arts, collectively known as Wushu (or Kung Fu, the term more popular in the West).
Each Province has its own celebrated styles of Wushu and in total there are thousands, many practised in areas so secluded from the rest of China, as well as the rest of the world, that there are only rumours of what they are like.
There are four famous centres of Wushu practice in China, the names of which have been honoured for centuries: North Shaolin in Henan, South Shaolin in Fujian, Wudang in Hubei, Emei in Sichuan.
Now you have an opportunity to visit them all and more besides.
