. . famous chinese products
Most products are far cheaper in China than outside and their quality is surprisingly high and getting better with every year. There are western style department stores in most big cities, some of which accept credit cards, such as VISA and American Express, but always check before purchasing. Smaller shops and restaurants usually require Chinese currency.

In big shops the usual process is to get a ticket for the product that you want, which you then have to go and pay for at a separate till, then come back to claim your purchase.

Haggling is not only acceptable but expected in smaller shops and markets. It is an art form in its own right, so will take some practice to get right.

Keep your receipts, if buying expensive goods, and be particularly careful about antiques. Only antiques authorized for sale to foreigners can be taken out of the country, so a receipt of sale is essential to get it past Customs.
