How do I play the video clips?

All users

The video clips on www.kungfu-taichi.com have been compressed with the DivX codec, which allows us to keep the download size to a minimum, while retaining excellent image quality. It does mean however that you need to download some additional drivers. The instructions below should help you out. The video clips are further compressed with a program called ZIP, so you may have to download another small utility to allow you to 'unzip' the files to get access to the video clip within. For PC users, one such program is freely available at http://www.filzip.com/ (link opens in a new window). Mac users can get a free utility at http://www.stuffit.com/expander/index.html (link opens in a new window).

Windows users

In order to play the video clips on Windows 98, ME, NT4, 2000 and XP, you may need to download some additional software: DivX Video for Windows (link opens in a new window). The link will take you to the official DivX website where you will need to click the appropriate download link to start transfering the DivX software. Windows will ask you if you want to save the file to disk or open it from its current location. You should choose to save the file to disk. You will need to access the file after it has downloaded, so remember which folder on your hard disk you saved it to. Once the download completes, find the file on your harddisk and double click it. The installer will start, all you have to do is follow its instructions and before you know it you are ready to view our videoclips.

Under certain rare circumstances Windows Media Player may give you a message saying that an appropriate codec could not be found, but it should still play our video clips.

Apple Mac users

To play the videos on Macs running OS 8.6 through to OS X, you have to download DivX for Macintosh (link opens in a new window). The link will take you to the official DivX website where you will need to click the download link to start transfering the DivX software, on completion it should automatically decompress it and place a folder on your desktop. Open that folder and you will find the DivX installer, simply double click this and follow the instructions. Once installed the video clips should work with your Quicktime player. If you are experiencing audio problems, you may need to convert the video with the DivX Validator. You can find this in the same folder as the installed DivX files. These occasional audio problems are caused by a bug in Quicktime player that causes skipping in MP3 soundtracks.
